Construction and Expansion in Tampa
19.4 acres of land in Spring Hill will be developed into a brand new residential community by Pulte Homes, after the company acquired it in April. The community will be named Valleybrook, and will be comprised of 66 single-family homes. According to a news release, the community will be located on Powell Road, near the Suncoast Parkway and the Ridge Road Extension. Amenities will include a dog park and children’s playground, and there will be no Community Development District fees.
The Pickleball Club has purchased a 5.5-acre piece of land in Venice for $2.8 million, which it will use to expand operations and add two new facilities to host the rapidly-expanding game. The membership-based club was incorporated in 2019, and has a goal of opening 15 pickleball facilities across the Sunshine State. Founder and CEO Brian McCarthy said he hoped the company would become “the leading social club focused on pickleball in Florida, followed by an expansion throughout America.” The new facility will feature 14 indoor and two outdoor pickleball courts, a players lounge, and a restaurant named ‘Pickle’s Café.’ It’s expected to open in July 2024.
A St. Pete Beach hotel is seeking permission to build an additional 629 rooms. TradeWinds Island Resorts will need to speak before the St. Pete Beach City Commission in order to get the necessary permit, and if successful will then begin plans for a 33,000-square-foot conference room, 18,000 feet of retail space, and three swimming pools, among other amenities, and the aforementioned extra rooms.
A nonprofit based in Sarasota is planning to move its headquarters to Tampa. CAN Community Health has called Sarasota home since 2018, but now plans to relocate in order to make it easier for team members to “travel in and out of all our current markets while providing an unparalleled, diverse, inclusive quality of life and favorable cost of living,” as mentioned in a press release from CAN Chair Jackie Rogers. According to its website, CAN Community Health aims to ‘inspire and contribute to the health and well-being’ of those living with HIV, Hepatitis C, and other conditions. CAN CEO Dr. Rishi Patel said “it is a pivotal move for our organization and a game changer for all our patients.”
Investing in Tampa
A South Florida-based company has paid $33 million for three business parks located in Tampa. Basis Industrial, which is headquartered in Boca Raton, purchased 224,108 square feet of space on 16.1 acres, and is thought to have plans to delve deeper into the Tampa market in the coming months and years. According to a news release, Basis Industrial plans to ‘invest heavily’ in the portfolio.
The Community Redevelopment Agency of Tampa has approved $14 million dollars to be spent on renovating the historic Tampa Theatre. Built in 1926, the theatre suffered the effects of smaller visitor numbers, rising costs, and a shift in the way in which consumers viewed movies. Restoration began in 2017, with phase one comprising of fixing integral infrastructure needs in the interior and exterior of the building. Having almost been demolished in 1973, it’s now hoped that the beloved building will be fully restored by its 100 year anniversary in 2026.
Tampa’s Newest Places to Visit
A new restaurant is due to open in downtown Tampa on May 20, and fans of the Roaring ‘20s are sure to be pleased. Inspired by the jazz culture of the time period, particularly in New Orleans, The Dan will offer a menu full of classics like lobster mac and cheese, creole bread pudding and raw oysters, as well as a selection of cocktails including Negronis and Old Fashioneds. The restaurant will be located within the Floridan Palace Hotel. In a news release, Floridian Palace Hotel General Manager Crystal Rivera said the team is “working hard to create an environment unlike any other”.
