Florida Funders, a Tampa-based venture capital firm has given $6 million in investment to a tech company in San Francisco that specializes in using artificial intelligence to gather and analyze conversation data. Dashbot has received a total of $14 million in funding so far. Florida Funders Partner Saxon Baum said “Florida Funders is proud” to support Dashbot, and that “it’s no secret that organizing data is a pain point for many businesses and we’re thrilled to invest in a company helping enterprises understand and optimize this customer data.” According to its website, Dashbot uses a ‘data-first strategy’ and purports to help users unlock ‘data for limitless possibilities in conversational AI.’
A Tampa-based virtual reality firm that offers virtual tours for the hospitality and tourism industries has named a new president and CEO. Shane Whitlatch has more than 20 years of experience, which he’ll bring to Threshold 360, a company that “convert[s] views to visits”. According to its website, Threshold 360 has “captured Threshold Virtual Tours™ for more than 125,000 locations, in over 100 destinations.” Whitlatch was previously the Chief Revenue Officer at Omnivore, as well as holding senior roles at both FairWarning (Imprivata) and Cynergistek (Clearwater Compliance). Threshold 360 also appointed Jesse Taylor, who has 30 years of experience, as VP of Engineering.
Business Expansion in Tampa
San Francisco-based jewelry brand Brilliant Earth, whose mission is to ‘cultivate a more transparent, sustainable, compassionate, and inclusive jewelry industry’, has opened a showroom in Tampa, located in Midtown Tampa’s 23-acre development. Though primarily an online retailer, the company has 33 locations across the United States. It offers virtual and in-person appointments for engagement and wedding rings, as well as a vast selection of jewelry including tennis bracelets, birthstone jewelry, and stackable rings.
Life in Tampa
A national pet hospital has expanded its operations to Tampa. GoodVets’ newest veterinary clinic will be run by Partner Veterinarian Dr Andrea Caspary, who is from Tampa, and previously worked at North Bay Animal Hospital. The practice is welcoming new patients through its doors with free first exams. It has five exam rooms, including one that is feline-only, as well as insulated wall materials, and ergonomic decor. GoodVets has a total of 16 locations across the United States.
Governor Ron DeSantis has approved an affordable housing plan. $771 million will go into increasing the availability of housing and offering assistance with down payments. Known as the Live Local Act, the plan will also focus on giving support to military communities. Mike DiNapoli, Executive Director of Florida Housing Finance Corporation, said that “providing safe, quality and affordable housing for families in Florida” continues to be “the mission” of state leaders and government.
Lakeland grocery chain Publix has promised to address hunger insecurity during what it’s calling its first ‘hunger summit’. The summit included discussions on how to best help food banks, and how the food banks themselves can operate to the best of their abilities. Publix also announced a $4 million grant to address capital needs in 40 organizations, and $5 million worth of fresh produce it has promised to donate to areas most in need. Speaking to the Tampa Business Observer, Publix President Kevin Murphy said that the company has seen “a heightened need” for helping those in need during and since the Covid-19 pandemic.
