The company studies the online gambling industry and promotes responsible gambling. During the study, Time2Play assessed startup costs and how many successful startup companies there were in cities across the country. In a press release, they stated that Tampa “is known for its many startup accelerator programs. Tampa is the homeland of some of the highest-funded companies in 2021 and early 2022, such as A2 Global Electronics + Solutions, AmeriLife and ReliaQuest.” Tampa was beaten only by Denver and Phoenix.
Taking a closer look at AmeriLife, the Clearwater-based insurance firm continues to expand after acquiring Bachmeier, Gudis and Associates, which does business as BGA Insurance Group. AmeriLife distributes life and health insurance, as well as annuities and retirement planning services. BGA co-founder Greg Gudis said that “partnering with AmeriLife was an absolute no-brainer”.
A new assisted living and memory care community has been opened in Daytona Beach. St. Petersburg company Solutions Advisors Group opened Sunscape Daytona, with amenities including a dining and entertainment terrace, bocce ball court, movie theater and several walking trails. Kristin Ward, CEO of Solvere Living, which is a holding of Solutions Advisors Group, said that, as over 24 percent of the local population is 65 or over, there is “an acute need for retirement communities that provide a high level of care in a safe environment.” The grand opening on March 17th featured casino games that helped raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association.
A restaurant chain based in Tampa is continuing its global expansion, with the opening of a store in Kazakhstan, and plans to open a branch in Cairo soon. PDQ, which stands for People Dedicated to Quality, signed a franchise agreement with the Dubai-based Eastern Investment Co. last year, allowing EIC to own and operate PDQ restaurants in 40 countries in the Middle East and northern Africa.
Habitat for Humanity has received a huge donation of $436 million from MacKenzie Scott, ex-wife of Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos, with the Hillsborough County chapter set to receive $7.5 million, and the Pinellas County and West Pasco County chapter $11 million. Scott has given almost $9 billion of her fortune to charitable causes since her divorce from Bezos. Habitat for Humanity International CEO Jonathan Reckford stated in a press release that the “incredible gift” helps to make the work they do possible.
Construction on a 75-acre industrial park in St. Petersburg will begin this summer. Real estate management company JLL, who will arrange leasing for the developer, Greystar, stated that space is available for potential tenants looking for between 20,000 and 150,000 square feet. The first phase of the project will see three buildings totaling 290,000 square feet, which are expected to be available early next year. According to research conducted by JLL, the industrial market in Tampa Bay is one of the strongest in Florida, with a below 4% vacancy rate in the last three quarters.
