Let’s take a look at everything that’s happening in the Tampa Bay area, what’s coming up in the next few weeks and months, and how Ready Stays is here for your month-to-month rental needs in Tampa.
Building Tampa
Construction on a new industrial park is set to begin this year. The project, which is being led by a joint partnership between Fort Lauderdale’s BBX Logistic Properties and Jacksonville’s FRP Development, will be located just off Interstate 4 in Lakeland. The approximate development cost is around $25 million, and the project will feature “state-of-the-art logistic” facilities.
In more construction news, 174 homes are coming to the Pinellas County community known for hosting an annual PGA Tour event, within Innisbrook Golf & Spa Resort. America’s luxury home builder, Toll Brothers, will be in charge of development. The Valspar Championship, named after the event’s title sponsor paint brand Valspar, brings some of the biggest names in golf, including an appearance by Tiger Woods in 2018. Some homes in the construction development will have a view of the club’s golf course, while others will have views of the impressive lake and preserve. The homes will have between three and five bedrooms, with prices beginning in the mid-$500,000s.
Tampa Looks to the Future
The Moffitt Cancer Center has plans to use AI and machine learning in its fight against the disease. Working with NVIDIA, Oracle, and a subsidiary of Deloitte, the Center will aim to revolutionize “cancer care delivery through advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.” The process will involve the use of clinical notes from around 100,000 inpatients, and will not only focus on treatment, but on optimizing billing processes too. Moffitt VP Dana Rollison said of the update: “By leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies, we can unlock new insights, streamline workflows and ultimately improve patient outcomes.”
Tampa International Airport has added new nonstop services to Pensacola and Bangor, Maine, through Breeze Airways. The new routes brings Breeze’s total nonstop destinations from TPA to 23, including the recently-added Orange County, California, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Services to Bangor will begin on October 4, while the Pensacola service will start this summer on June 28, both departing on Mondays and Fridays.
In more positive air travel news, TPA’s roundtrip air fares were down by 2% from 2022 to 2023. In a study, Upgraded Points calculated the average airfare from both years of 253 major and medium-sized airports in the United States. Meanwhile, Miami International Airport saw fare increases of 8.2%. Upgraded Points noted that “while the average round trip ticket price nominally sits above pre-2020 prices, airfares are actually lower now than at any point prior to the pandemic after adjusting for inflation.” So, there really is no excuse not to hop on a plane and visit Tampa!
The University of South Florida is going to create an entire school dedicated to AI. In a news release, the university announced its plans and elaborated on the “internal task force” that “convened to evaluate the university’s strengths already in place and explore opportunities to enhance collaboration that helps advance USF’s academic and research excellence in AI, cybersecurity and computing.” The plan is to offer both undergraduate and graduate degree programs that “prepare USF students for high-demand careers”.
New Opportunities for Tampa Bay
An engineering and architecture consulting firm headquartered in Indianapolis will move its Tampa office into a larger space, with plans to triple its workforce here. American Structurepoint’s Tampa office is currently located in the Cypress Center, but has just signed a 9,485-square-foot office lease at 1 N Dale Mabry Highway. Chief People Officer of the company, Ben Braun, explained: “We are committed to expanding our presence in the Tampa Bay market and needed a new flagship office to grow our workforce and attract local talent.”
