Businesses Look to Tampa
A defense contractor based in California has paid $3.9 million for an industrial site in Dunedin. Amaratek, which has its headquarters in San Diego, bought the 33,846-square-foot property with a view to move in in early 2024. As the building was previously used as a manufacturing facility, it already possessed many of the specific requirements from the company. Amaratek works alongside the U.S. Department of Defense and Homeland Security, as well as NGOs and social entrepreneurs. It also works with groups at the MacDill Air Force Base, in Tampa. The expansion will create 20 jobs.
An investment firm from New York has successfully acquired St. Petersburg coupon company Valpak. AmatoMartin, a privately held, investment company, revealed its plans in a news release, following its purchase of Clipper Magazine in April 2022. Founding partner John Amato said: “Pairing Valpak with Clipper Magazine broadens our reach with a market-leading 60 million households”.
New York investors have also bought St. Pete’s Squeeky’s Car Wash. According to Pinellas County records, Andover Properties paid $4.12 million for the property. Andover now owns car washes in five locations. Having first opened in 1990, Squeeky’s offers a monthly wash club, which allows drivers to wash their cars as many times as they like every month, and even promises to rewash cars that have been rained on within 24 hours of the original wash.
English rock band The Rolling Stones have chosen The Point Distillery in Pasco County to produce their new rum. The entire distilling process for Crossfire Hurricane rum will take place at the distillery, which includes the bottling line up, filling the bottles, completing packaging, and sealing the bottles. The name of the rum was inspired by the opening line of The Stones’ “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”. The band also recently announced a 2024 U.S. tour and the release of its first studio album in 18 years. You can preorder the rum online now, and it’ll be available for purchase in store early next year.
Tampa’s Medical Offerings Expand
Tampa General Hospital’s acquisition of the Bravera Health network has been finalized. Paying nearly $300 million, Tampa General has formed TGH North, a new division of the hospital made up of a combination of the hospitals, their operations, services, providers and team members. The Bravera centers acquired were located in Spring Hill and Brooksville in Hernando, and Seven Rivers in Citrus County. The acquisition has increased Tampa General’s academic health system to six hospitals and almost 14,000 team members and providers.
Tampa General is also set to build a new urgent care medical facility at Babcock Ranch. The clinic will be open seven days a week, and will offer services to treat common illnesses and injuries. It will also provide sports and school physicals, X-rays, and testing for infectious conditions, such as Covid-19. The 18,000-acre self-sustaining, solar-powered ranch crosses two counties. It’s home to around 8,000 residents, which is expected to rise to 50,000 when the project is complete.
