Happy New Year, everyone! Let’s take a look at everything that’s happening in the Tampa Bay area, what’s coming up in the next few weeks and months, and how Ready Stays is here for your month-to-month rental needs in Tampa.
Looking ahead in 2024
New Year’s is the perfect time to think about predictions for the next 12 months, and that’s exactly what one economist has done regarding Florida’s economy. Despite a national economy that’s looking less than promising, Sean Snaith of the Institute for Economic Competitiveness at UCF, predicts that Florida will be protected by population growth. Though he did admit that it was likely the Sunshine State’s economy will slow over the next year, growth will remain positive. Something to celebrate, indeed!
Business Expansion in Tampa
A New York investment company has purchased a two-building industrial property in Tampa for $55.6 million. Clarion Partners, which has an extensive real estate portfolio in sectors ranging from industrial and residential to retail and hospitality, also owns 5.8 million square feet of existing industrial space in Florida, in the form of 53 properties. The two warehouses involved in this most recent purchase, which make up Tampa Airport Logistics, are located close to Tampa International Airport.
Real estate development branding firm Walker Brands, based in Tampa, has been acquired by two employees after the company’s president and founder Nancy Walker stepped down. In a press release, the company announced that Tara Robinson and Matt McEachern have taken over as Owner, President and Owner, Chief Creative Officer respectively. Robinson has been at the company since 2013, while McEachern’s tenure is over 15 years. Nancy Walker said of the move: “Tara and Matt were logical choices to continue to lead Walker Brands” and went on to add that it’s “never been a better time to support Florida in its continued growth and evolution.” The press release also revealed that Robinson and McEachern’s plans for the company include advancing client-focused strategies and “redefining excellence in the real estate branding landscape.”
A Tampa-based RV company, Lazydays, has closed on financing worth $35 million that will go towards an exciting business expansion. The company, which offers both new and used RVs, has stated that the loan “provides both liquidity in the current operating environment and flexibility to secure alternative financing arrangements on a property-by-property basis in the future.” According to its website, Lazydays “continues to add locations at a rapid pace”. It has been in operation since 1976.
Tampa Construction and Development
Construction on the Moffitt Cancer Center’s Speros FL campus in Pasco County is highlighting how big of an impact the center will have once it’s completed. The 775-acre campus will have 140 buildings, and will eventually employ 14,000 people. With a focus on accelerating advancement and high-quality care, the center will offer its first proton therapy in 2027. Moffitt President and CEO Dr. Patrick Hwu said: “You cannot separate cancer research and treatment from hope, which is the root of the name ‘Speros FL’ and the driving force behind all that we do.” Moffitt has also previously revealed that the project could take 30 years to be completed in its entirety.
The University of South Florida has released details of a $340 million project to construct a new football and events stadium. The 35,000-seat stadium will be paid for with bonds and donations. The South Florida Bulls, USF’s football team, will make the new stadium its home; currently, it uses the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Raymond James Stadium.
Construction has started on affordable housing that will be the product of a joint project by a St. Petersburg developer, Blue Sky Communities, and a local Catholic church. Casa Di Francesco, as the project has been named, is being built on 20 acres owned by the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. A planned 140 units will be built during construction, 100 of which will be one-bedroom, with the remaining 40 offering two bedrooms. Pre-registration is open on the project’s official website.
