Let’s take a look at everything that’s happening in the Tampa Bay area, what’s coming up in the next few weeks and months, and how Ready Stays is here for your month-to-month rental needs in Tampa.
The first new home in an affordable housing project has been completed and is ready for new inhabitants to move in. Located in the Sulphur Springs Neighborhood, the home on Idell Drive was unveiled on June 20, in a ceremony attended by city officials, residents and the media. Tampa Mayor Jane Castor highlighted the need for more affordable housing in a statement, saying “for every apartment that comes up for rent in Tampa, there are over 20 people looking at that apartment. It’s something that we have to approach from all angles and we’re doing that.” Her goal is to provide 10,000 new affordable homes by 2027.
New data from real estate research firm Clever has shown that Tampa ranks 10th of all cities in the country for food-truck-friendliness. The criteria included the amount of food trucks per 100,000 residents, a walkability score, Google searches for food trucks, and sales tax rate. Food trucks have become increasingly popular as an alternative to indoor dining during the Covid-19 pandemic. The food truck industry is now valued at $1.2 billion.
Passenger traffic at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport is up 44% this year to date. The airport provides a non-stop service to 65 destinations, and saw a total of 221,004 departures this May alone. Looking ahead, it’s expected that more records will be broken, so if you’re traveling into Tampa Bay, you’re certainly not alone!
Stretching studio chain Stretch Zone has opened its 200th location in the country – and 48th in Florida – in St. Petersburg. The fitness chain, which is backed by former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, is located at 327 11th Ave. N. It offers assisted stretching that aims to enhance its customers’ quality of life. CEO Tony Zaccario said the company is “often imitated but never duplicated by our competitors, which is why franchising into new markets has been crucial for our team”. New locations have also opened in Chicago, Dallas and Anchorage.
A hotel that opened in downtown Tampa in 1926 is set to join the Tapestry Collection by Hilton. The Floridan Palace Hotel, which was once the tallest building in the city, is a 212-room property located at 905 N. Florida Ave. Owner and operator 1754 Properties LLC is due to spend $25 million on renovations, with the intention of making it one of Tampa’s most upscale hotels. According to a press release, the Tapestry Collection by Hilton consists of just 75 hotels worldwide, each with its own “unique, vibrant style”.
Home construction company PulteGroup Inc. will open its first townhome community, Shoreline, in St. Petersburg on July 9. The gated complex will feature 53 luxury townhomes, each with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and a two-car garage. The community is located close to Carillon Park and the Howard Frankland and Gandy bridges. Each unit will be priced in the high $400,000s. Sean Strickler, PulteGroup’s West Florida Division President, stated in a press release that “St. Pete is one of Florida’s most desirable destinations”.
A developer in St. Pete is beginning to work on attracting retailers to fill the Orange Station project as construction is set to begin. Located on the site of the city’s former police headquarters, the 16-story project is costing $80 million, and will feature six retail spaces, ranging between 1,100 and 4,000 square feet. The condominium section has already sold 30% of its units since sales began earlier this year. The developer confirmed that any retail agreements will be “firm contracts, not reservations”, and the project will also offer 50,000 square feet of office space, as well as a 600-space car parking garage.
