We’re going to cover all the goings-on in the Tampa Bay area, and how Ready Stays is here for your month-to-month rental needs in Tampa.
Large-scale vaccination efforts against Covid-19 are expected to boost economic outcomes in Florida and across the United States. Economist with Wells Fargo Mark Vitner, who focuses on Florida, has said that “the forecast has been revised up,” which is something that’s “not done very often”. The past year has seen economists having to constantly adjust their predictions with each new wave of the virus, but it’s hoped that widespread vaccination and the warmer weather of spring will bring with it increased consumer demand and spending. The fact that Covid cases are lower than expected is also positive news for the people and the economy.
A 24-story apartment building will break ground in downtown St. Pete in the next few weeks. It will hold 220 luxury units, and it’s expected that construction will be completed in 2022. Coastal Construction, based in Miami, will be the general contractor. The company recently worked on the JW Marriott in Water Street Tampa. Coastal’s Central Florida President, Craig Klingensmith, called the area “vibrant” and praised the area’s future opportunities.
A Clearwater-based technology-enabled performance marketing firm has appointed former Boeing Capital exec Vasundara Srenivas as their new CFO. She will lead the global finance and accounting teams of Digital Media Solutions Inc. starting March 13. The company is the fourth-largest marketing firm in the Tampa Bay area, and has a full-time staff of 166 employees.
Whole Foods Market is coming to Midtown Tampa this spring, and plans to open a 48,000-square foot-store. The grocery giant also hopes to move into a site near St. Petersburg’s Old Northeast Neighborhood, at 203 38th Ave. N, according to sources. Development hopes rest on two city council votes due to take place in the coming weeks.
TypTap Insurance Group has received a $100 million investment from Centerbridge Partners LP, a multi-strategy private investment firm based in New York. The subsidiary of Tampa’s HCI Group, the insurance technology company provides homeowners’ and flood insurance. It’s hoped that the investment will allow TypTap to fund a multistate expansion; it’s currently only in operation in Florida, but has been approved to expand into a further 10 states, including Michigan and New Mexico.
A university in Tampa Bay has plans to hire 25 new professors by the fall. Florida Polytechnic University will increase its workforce by 40%, despite this being a time when it’s far more common to cut staff than hire them. Just nine years old, the university has stood out for its focus on STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), and this has also helped it to survive the coronavirus pandemic. Many students have been choosing subjects that will allow them to get higher paid jobs upon graduating. Among the staff being recruited are experts on artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity engineering and more.
And finally, in news that will surely delight children across the state, Legoland Florida will soon be home to a new Peppa Pig theme park. Construction is hoped to be completed in 2022, and it will be separate from the Legoland park. There is a Peppa Pig World within Paulton’s Park in the UK, and already potential visitors are beginning to show interest. Despite projections of a 2.7% decline in global amusement park profits this year, due in large part to the coronavirus pandemic, it’s a positive sign that companies are still investing in opening new parks.
