We’re going to cover all the goings-on in the Tampa Bay area, and how Ready Stays is here for your month-to-month rental needs in Tampa.
Tampa residents can look forward to the opening of a new restaurant in WestShore Plaza this summer. Kingsford Fire Grille, which will be charcoal grill-themed, is set to open in July and will take the place of the 7,900-square-foot space currently occupied by Mitchell’s Fish Market. Diners will enjoy tableside DIY s’mores, cocktails, skillet meals and a large takeout area, for those who are looking to grab their food and go. Restaurant veteran Michael DeMaio said the Grille will “invoke the sentimental joys of a backyard cookout, but with an elevated flare.” He also praised the abundance of sunny days in Tampa as being the reason why it’s the perfect place for the Grille to call home.
In other hospitality-themed news, Tampa restaurateur Jeff Gigante has unveiled plans for a new, two-story restaurant in the Westshore business district. Union New American will call a former office building at 1111 N. Westshore Boulevard its home, which is owned by Wright’s Ally Capital. The restaurant will likely open in the fall of this year, and Gigante believes its success will be based on a demand by consumers for dine-in restaurants, since there have been so many restrictions during the pandemic. There’ll be both indoor and outdoor seating, and the top floor will offer private event space, live music, and a terrace lounge.
A hotel near the University of South Florida could soon be transformed into a student housing community. A developer from Atlanta, Haven Communities, has plans to demolish the aging building to make way for a 747-bed student housing facility, and has submitted a rezoning request. A public hearing regarding the request will be held by Tampa City Council on September 9. According to Haven’s plans, it will be a four-story building with extensive amenities and an integrated parking garage. Haven have recently completed a similar project west of 46th Street, which has been well received.
Also in development is an eight-story apartment building, in place of two small office buildings in Westshore. Woodfield Development, a South Carolina-based company, will file a rezoning request with the city, for a development that will include 328 apartments, and 618 parking spaces. The architect will be Fifth Dimension Architecture and Interiors LLC, with Coen & Co. taking on engineering responsibilities. The pandemic was projected to have a devastating impact on the apartment market in Tampa Bay, but there was actually only a short pause before activity resumed.
One of the latest companies with plans to set up and expand their business in Tampa Bay is Embark, a Dallas-based financial advisory firm. They first visited Tampa in 2020, and are hoping to use their new office as a base for expansion to cities in the Southeast and along the East Coast. The majority of their seven existing offices are based in the western United States, in Houston, Austin, Denver, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, and Tulsa. The company currently employs around 200 people, and expects to have at least 25 more in their Hyde Park office by the end of this year.
Amazon is opening two new delivery facilities in the Tampa Bay area. The facilities will be last-mile distribution centers, the last stop for products before they’re delivered to the customer. Amazon has said that the centers will create “hundreds of jobs”, and wages will start at $15 an hour. They’ll be located in Tampa and Gibsonton, and will open up at the end of this year, and in 2022, respectively. The company is also building a huge warehouse in Temple Terrace.
