In a recent study, Tampa Bay was ranked third in the top cities to work remotely in. Commissioned by Lawnstarter, an online marketplace based in Austin, Texas that went fully remote in 2020, the study based its findings on aspects like internet quality, household income, cost of living, quality and access to coworking spaces, and food-delivery services. Jacksonville also ranked highly, coming in at number nine. Factors like low or no state income taxes and the amount of outdoor and recreational spaces worked in the cities’ favor. All of the top 10 worst places to work remotely were found to be in California, mainly due to the high cost of living.
Tampa’s first bus rapid transit line was opened to the public on October 20, at a party in downtown St. Petersburg. Featuring members of the St. Petersburg High School marching band, the ribbon-cutting ceremony preceded SunRunner’s first passengers making a journey at 6 a.m. on October 21. Dedicated lanes and raised platforms make faster and safer embarking and disembarking possible. The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority stated that over 10,000 passengers used the service in its first four days of running. The project cost a total of $44 million.
Virgin Atlantic founder Sir Richard Branson visited Tampa Bay recently, to celebrate the launch of the airlines’ nonstop route from Tampa International Airport to London’s Heathrow Airport. Branson met with Tampa Mayor Jane Castor, as well as important figures from the aviation industry, to greet the arrival of Virgin’s Airbus 330neo. On board, passengers were served a variety of Tampa Bay delicacies, such as Cuban sandwiches and Two Tribes beer. Branson wore a Tampa Bay Buccaneers jersey to mark the occasion.

The 22,232-square-foot space will be used by employees in a hybrid way, allowing them to come and go as they please. The headquarters will be used for client meetings, training, and small amounts of work, rather than day to day office use. The company stated that “cubicles and 9-5 work schedules were replaced with collaboration and team zones, hotel desks, state-of-the-art technology and schedules that prioritize flexibility and excellence”.
