Business Booms in Tampa
Multiple companies on Florida’s west coast have made the 2024 Inc. 5000 list which ranks the fastest-growing, privately-owned U.S. companies. Companies on the list are ranked “according to percentage revenue growth over the last three years.” According to the Inc. 5000 website, the companies have “generated 874,940 jobs, $317 billion in revenue, and show where the economy is going.” There were 466 Floridian companies on the list, with 88 located in Tampa and surrounding areas, including KashKick at number 11. The company, founded in 2017, has enjoyed 16,095% growth over the last three years.
In other exciting business news, Florida has been named the best state in the country for starting a small business. A report from Lendio, which offers small business loans online, revealed that the Sunshine State topped the list because of “lower taxes, an influx of movers…sufficient business funding, and higher amounts of personal consumption expenditures.” According to the report, Florida’s small businesses had a 5-year survival rate of over 50%.
BoatBites, a “food delivery app for the water” has been launched by an entrepreneur from St. Pete. John Bonaccorso, founder and CEO, came up with the idea while bed bound, recovering from an accident that was almost fatal. BoatBites allows you to order food, drinks, groceries and other items from hundreds of vendors in a way similar to Uber Eats. A delivery person will then deliver the goods – on a jet ski! The company is also committed to sustainability, offering “eco-friendly packaging and complimentary trash haul-out” as well as “low-emission delivery vehicles” and “strict driver standards to protect marine environments.”
Heading to a Tampa Bay Sun FC home game any time soon? Bern’s Steak House and other local establishments will be serving concession food there! You’ll be able to sample all manner of delectable delights, like classic steak sandwiches with peppers, onions, mushrooms and cheddar whiz, along with macadamia ice cream sandwiches. Construction Continues in Tampa
Affordable housing development company Blue Sky Communities is working with the City of Tampa in the construction of a 128-unit housing community that will hopefully satisfy some of the ‘enormous’ need in Tampa. The complex will be located near Interstate 275 in Tampa, and will be named The Adderley. It’ll feature one, two and three-bedroom units. Though it’s based in St. Petersburg, Blue Sky Communities “serves the needs of working-class families, seniors and disabled veterans throughout the State of Florida.”
Work has begun on the transformation of a St. Pete hospital that has been vacant for a long time. The former Edward White Hospital site is due to become “a multi-story affordable housing complex” for low-income seniors, as well as professional office space. The St. Petersburg Housing Authority (SPHA) will also move its administrative offices into the development, which will bring them closer to the people they serve. According to the SPHA website, the property is ‘adjacent to Booker Creek Park with lake views and access to the walking trail, basketball and pickleball courts, as well as park amenities”.
