Let’s take a look at everything that’s happening in the Tampa Bay area, what’s coming up in the next few weeks and months, and how Ready Stays is here for your month-to-month rental needs in Tampa.
Florida has been named number two in the best U.S. states to start a new business, according to a study by WalletHub. The rankings were decided based on a number of factors to determine the best business environment, access to resources, and business costs. The Sunshine State was beaten only by Utah, but it was found to have a better business environment than the Beehive State. The study measured average length of work week, average growth of new businesses, job growth and industry variety, among other factors, to find its results.
Tampa International Airport has announced that it’s adding direct flights from Tampa to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, and San Diego, California, through Frontier Airlines and Alaska Airlines respectively. The Aguadilla route will begin May 4, and the nonstop daily service to San Diego will be available from October 5. Airport CEO Joe Lopano said “hundreds of passengers each day fly between TIA and San Diego, so this new nonstop route by Alaska Airlines offers a welcome daily option without requiring a connection.” He went on to say that the nonstop service to Aguadilla will “serve both Puerto Rico and the Tampa Bay region’s extensive community with ties to the island.”
In similar news, Breeze Airways now offers heavily cut prices when flying from Tampa International Airport. With fares from as little as $39, flyers can head to a whole host of destinations, like Charleston, South Carolina; Huntsville, Alabama; Louisville, Kentucky; Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia; and Syracuse, New York. The airline made the decision based partly on a study by SWNS Digital, which found that seven in 10 Americans said their couch had become their best friend during the pandemic. Breeze President Tom Doxey stated people should “grab some really low fares, get off the couch, and experience some amazing destinations.”
Construction of a new cancer center has begun in Pasco County. The Moffitt Cancer Center will expand across a 775-acre facility, which will be used as a base for research into improving treatments. While the project could take years, if not decades, to be completed, Moffitt’s President and CEO Patrick Hwu hopes that the project, which will be called Speros FL, will “be the global epicenter for personalized oncology care and leading research that will revolutionize the way we prevent, find and treat cancer.” The center will lead to the creation of around 14,000 jobs.
A subsidiary of the Moffitt Cancer Center, OncoBay Clinical, has merged with clinical research firm Clinscience, which is based in Warsaw, Poland. The combined organization will be led by OncoBay Clinical CEO Krystyna Kowalczyk, who said the clinic provides “everything from regulatory to preclinical support,” and mentioned the “investigational new drug (IND) process”. OncoBay has the ability to run clinical trials of new drugs and therapies. Since it was founded in 2019, the company has already become profitable, expecting revenue to double in 2023, from 2022.
A Raising Cane’s restaurant has opened in Clearwater, the first of five total restaurants to be opened in the Tampa Bay area. The Louisiana fast-food chain currently has three restaurants in Florida already, with more on the way. The Clearwater restaurant is located west of Clearwater Mall and U.S. 19. The company paid around $4.5 million for the property.
Florida’s Advanced Green Technologies is set to begin construction of a huge solar carport project at Raymond James Financial’s headquarters in St. Petersburg. Once completed, the project is expected to generate 1.7 megawatts of renewable energy, which will in turn allow Raymond James to qualify for a 40% federal tax credit. Clint Sockman, AGT Executive Vice President, said “approximately 10% of the energy they use every year at that enormous campus, we’re going to be able to offset that with just these two parking garages.”
Construction has begun on Pendry Tampa, the luxury hotel and condo project. Developed by Two Roads Development, the project will consist of a 37-story complex on Tampa’s Riverwalk. It will include 207 condominiums, 220 hotel rooms, a rooftop pool, luxury spa, upscale restaurant, and lobby bar. All residents will be able to access all amenities, and will be supported by a residential staff.
